Adopt an older pet from an animal shelter and give them a chance at a happy life.

Why adopt an older pet?

  • It’s cheaper. Generally puppies and kittens need more visits to the vet, lots of vaccinations and possibly surgery for neutering. Older pets adopted from a shelter will be up to date with vaccinations and only need an annual check-up.
  • It’s easier, as older animals are probably housebroken, which means you don’t have to clean up after them.
  • It’s the humane option, because adopting an older dog means you are saving a life.

Six things to consider before adopting a dog

  1. What breed of dog suits your family?
  2. Do you have enough space for a dog?
  3. Who will walk the dog?
  4. Are you or your parents prepared for the expenses that go with caring for a dog?
  5. It’s best to neuter male dogs. They live longer and are less aggressive if you do.
  6. Adopting a dog is like adding another member to your family. Are you ready?
