Bees are such an important part of our ecosystems, but they are in danger of being wiped out. All over the world, their natural habitats are being destroyed and millions have disappeared in the last few years alone.
These helpful insects are flying away from their colonies and never coming back. Scientists are working on solving the mystery that they call Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and think it could have to do with an increase in the use of pesticides, or an increase in predators or disease. However, the mystery remains.
Whatever the cause, CCD is a real threat to our ecosystems as our farms, and therefore our food, depend on the pollination efforts of honeybees.
Let's hope they find out what is causing this soon so that we can keep our honeybees safe. Next time you find one in your house or car, remember how precious it is and ask an adult to help you remove it safely.
