Drape a sheet or painter’s drop cloth around wooden poles to make a teepee. Use blue tarp on the floor to make a river and create a canoe out of cardboard boxes taped together.
You’ll need paper, glue and lots of different coloured sand. Your friends can make their own fabulous sand art to take home. Sand art should be done outside as it can make a mess.
You can make one that wraps around your wrist or your arm. Just have a station with long bits of string or embroidery yarn, feathers, beads and other things that can be thread onto the string. They look really cool.
Paint coffee cans and cover them with fabric to make drums. You can do this before your friends arrive or it can be one of the activities you do at the party. Then sit around a fire (or braai!) and beat the drums. Paint kitchen towel rolls and fill them with rice and beans, then seal up each end to make rainmakers.
Serve burgers and rename them “bison burgers”. Popcorn, corn chips and cornbread are all things that could have been in a real Native American diet. Cover ice-cream cones with melted chocolate and decorate with string liquorice to make them look like teepees.
